Flash on Android!

Adobe and HTC have teamed up to bring Flash to the new HTC Hero smartphone. It is part of the Open Screen initiative. Later this year they are coming out with full flash Player 10, right now it only supports AS2 :(

The HTC Hero delivers powerful, compatible video playback performance using Flash technology, and interactive content enabled by ActionScript® 2.0. Users can enjoy and navigate through Web videos using intuitive video controls. With progressive streaming of large MP3 audio files from a Web server and the local file storage, the HTC Hero provides a seamless audio experience. Support for Sorenson and On2 VP6 codecs enables higher quality video and playback of existing Web content. A demo of the user experience enabled by the Flash Platform on the HTC Hero and the Android operating system can be viewed at www.adobe.com/go/htchero.

Peter Elst says; The player and version that runs on the HTC Hero is Flash Lite 3.1. What will be available in October is a “developer release” of Flash Player 10 for mobile. I’m not sure how close we are to having end user smartphones with Flash Player 10 support, most likely some time 2010. Might also be worth to note that it is HTC who is joining the Open Screen Project — though Android is a targeted platform for the unified platform its not formally a partner.

Please consider to buying me a coffee.
